As We Like It Features Two Goddesses; Director Chen Hung-I Enjoyed the Food and Environment in Taichung
Inspired by Shakespeare’s “As You Like It”, Taiwanese film “As We Like It”, started shooting last month. The movie features Puff Kuo and Aggie Hsieh and all male and female characters are played by female actors, unprecedented in Taiwanese film history. While the crew was filming at a famous hotel in Taichung, Ling Ying-Chih, CEO of Taichung Film Development Foundation, visited the crew with Taichung’s popular drinks to wish them the best.
10 years ago, his Candy Rain, a film based on a true story, generated much hype and discussion. Now, 10 years later, director Chen Hung-I, with Wei Ying-Chuan, an experienced theater director, co-directed the sequel – As We Like It. Many eager fans could not wait to see this film that has generated so much type with an all female cast. To depict the sci-fi and progressive world in the film, the Production Support Division and the crew, after several location scouting trips, decided on locations including SOF Hotel (known for its ruin look), Taichung Park (one of the eight views of Taiwan during the Japanese occupation), Bai-Li used bookstore (with an interior like a scene in Harry Potter movies), billion dollar mansion Chingjia Yunyuen, Potential Kendo Association dojo (which has been providing lessons in the central area) and Homerun Billiard Hall for this movie.
Director Chen, when talking to CEO Lin, just kept singing praises to the food and movie-friendly environment of Taichung. He pointed out how impressed he was with Taichung’s fine weather years ago when he came to Taichung with a commercial production crew. Unfortunately it was a short trip and he could not stay too long. Therefore when the opportunity presented itself for him to visit another city outside Taipei to shoot a long film, he first thought of Taichung and wanted to enjoy this city when on breaks this time.
CEO Lin, while visiting the crew, brought them Chunshuitang pearl milk tea, which originated from Taichung. Each crewmember was ecstatic and thanked Taichung City’s hospitality as they savored these sweet drinks. CEO Lin stated that since its founding nearly 3 years ago, Taichung Film Development Foundation has been sparing no efforts in providing the best and most professional film production support service. By combining public and private resources, the foundation helps film crews shoot their films without obstacles. The foundation welcomes all film companies to shoot their films in Taichung and CEO Lin wished the best of luck to the filming of As We Like It and looked forward to seeing it in the theater
