Dali Tobacco Factory

  • Category: Dali Districts/historic buildings

The Taichung Tobacco Re-Drying Plant Complex (Dali Tobacco Factory) is the only one of the five major “leaf tobacco re-drying facilities” in Taiwan that was still in production until the end of 2017. It is particularly meaningful as a historical heritage.
From the leaf tobacco re-drying plant’s “steam tank room” (built in 1942), to the wooden “office hall” (built in 1952, present-day recreation room) of the Taichung Tobacco Processing Plant in the early postwar period, to the wooden “staff cafeteria” (built in 1953, present-day auditorium) of the Taichung Tobacco Plant, and the boiler room, bathrooms, barrel storage warehouse, and re-fumigation room that were renovated in the later period, Dali Tobacco Factory is a testimony to the development of the tobacco industry in Taichung from the Japanese colonial era to the postwar period.
Scenes from the film “Detention” and the TV series “Gold Leaf” were shot here.
