Huangxi Academy - an old building steeped in culture and learning
Huangxi Academy is the oldest remaining building in Dadu District, and the only remaining academy of the olden days in Taichung. It has been listed as Level 3 National Monument by the Ministry of the Interior.
Huangxi Academy, commonly known as Wenchang Temple, was the cultural and educational center of the Dadu area (including the townships of Dadu, Wuri, and Longjing) in the past. It was built during the reign of Guangxu Emperor of the Qing Dynasty (1875 to 1908) and has a history of more than 120 years. The building materials, design, and construction techniques were all very sophisticated, and it is especially famous for its exquisite brickwork carvings, making it an outstanding example of cultural and educational architecture of the late Qing Dynasty. It is suitable for a wide variety of scenes set in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China era.
