Japanese-style historical building
The Shigang Farmers’ Association Japanese-Style Granary was built during the Japanese colonial era, covering an area of about 661 square meters, and has a history of over 70 years. It has survived the Chi-Chi earthquake of1999 and is the most intact Japanese-style granary found in Taiwan.
The building materials of the granary included Taiwania (an endemic conifer species). The sloping support method was employed by using large pillars and beams and a large number of walls. Bamboo sheets covered in clay were used as the supporting structure to reduce the weight of most of the building materials and increase seismic resistance. The granary is no longer in use, but remains open to visitors for viewing in its original state.
It is suitable for scenes requiring Japanese architecture.
