日治時期，台灣總督府於大正9年（西元1920年）重新劃分臺灣地方行政轄區，在中部地區設置臺中州，管轄臺中市、大屯郡、豐原郡、東勢郡、大甲郡、彰化郡、員林郡、北斗郡、南投郡、能高郡、新高郡與竹山郡等，即今臺中市，彰化縣與南投縣之範圍。臺中市由於係州治所在，機關林立，人口聚集，成為中部地區政治經濟文化的中心。

本建築設計採街角型配置，主入口位於轉角，充滿歷史樣式華麗的特色，左右二側如雙翼向後延伸，將官廳的氣勢表露無遺，戰後建築物作為台中市政府辦公廳使用。整體設計為仿法國馬薩風格，潔白牆面與懷舊紅磚搭配，並雕刻著精緻的裝飾。內部建築往左右二側延伸如雙翼，形成整齊明亮的迴廊，中心庭園擁有大片綠地和高聳椰子樹。是穿越歷史時光迴廊的景色之一

A corridor through history and time

Built during the Japanese colonial period, Taichung Prefectural Hall was designed in the style of the French architect François Mansart, with white walls, antique red bricks, and exquisite decorations. The internal building extends to the left and right like two wings, forming a neat and bright corridor, and the central garden has a large green area and towering coconut trees.
