Taichung Second Market

  • Category: Central Districts/Market
  • Address: No. 87, Sec. 2, Sanmin Rd., Central Dist., Taichung City 400002, Taiwan (R.O.C.)

The Second Market, formerly known as the Shin-Fu Town Market during the Japanese colonial period, was renowned for selling exquisite and high-priced goods, earning it the nickname "Japanese Market". After a comprehensive renovation by the Taichung City Government, it has transformed into its present appearance and has a history of nearly eighty years since its establishment.

The Second Market was a crucial marketplace for daily necessities in early Taichung. Due to the diverse range of goods sold, vendors needed to be organized into designated areas. This resulted in the market's pathways taking on a hexagonal radial shape, hence the nickname "Six-Angle Avenue".

The Second Market is home to numerous renowned delicacies, including Shanhe Braised Pork Rice, Lao Lai Black Tea, Lao Wang Turnip Cake, Zou Ji Scallion Pancakes, Li Hai Lu Braised Pork Rice, Mao Chuan Meatballs, Yan Ji Meat Buns, and Fuzhou Noodles. These are unforgettable flavors for locals and are sought after by visitors from afar.
