位於東勢區的金門橋，原本只有潺潺的流水劃過兩岸，兩岸居民互動必須靠涉水而過，而為了老幼婦孺的安全，建橋於昭和十五年(西元1940年)，因當時太平洋戰爭爆發，徵調走所有的水泥，使得當地人民只能利用糯米、石灰加上黑糖等材料膠和而成，因此富有彈性的特質，即使遇921地震，而都無任何損傷，特殊的建造工法及造形，具有相當保存的價值，尤其是對於地方上居民的安全性更是功不可沒。
